Your heart knows the way. Run in that direction.” – Rumi
Recently, I've been standing at what we often call a "crossroads," wondering what to do next. I have the opportunity to take a deep breath, look around, and decide if I want to continue in the same direction or pivot to something new.
The PIVOT 🤣
I laugh every time I hear that word as it brings to mind that scene on Friends where Ross and his friends are trying to move a couch up a staircase in the building. Ross keeps yelling pivot, pivot!... I'll just find a YouTube clip of it for you instead of butchering the "retell."
Anywho
I'm no stranger to the "listen to my heart and pivot dance". Throughout my career journey, I've pivoted many times, exploring various paths and gaining diverse experiences. I started with a passion for driving and ventured into being an A&W hostess, waitressing, opening a dance studio, running an artsy cafe/giftware store, working in private property management, transitioning to the government sector of housing, self-publishing a children's book, and exploring various other roles.
Now, I'm feeling the pull to pivot yet again.
Having trouble making a decision or finding direction?
Here are some steps that have helped me in past:
Write out your thoughts or "brain dump" onto the page, exploring all aspects of the decision at hand.
Step away from the problem or question for a bit and distract yourself with another activity, such as cleaning, listening to music, or going for a drive.
Engage in physical activity to get your energy moving and stimulate your mind. Even if it's just wiggling your fingers, get yourself moving!
Make a pros and cons list to weigh the benefits and drawbacks of each option.
Consult Google for inspirational quotations or new information that may provide insight or alternative options.
Seek inspiration from nature by spending time outdoors and observing the beauty and complexity of the natural world.
Explore the issue through artistic expression, such as drawing, painting, or writing poetry, to stimulate creative thinking and generate new ideas.
Set a deadline for making a decision to motivate yourself to take action.
Consider the advice of experts or professionals in the relevant field.
Break down the problem into smaller, more manageable pieces to make progress and find a solution.
I took this picture while I was out for a walk the other day. The path on the left represents the well-trodden path of following external expectations and societal pressures, while the path on the right symbolizes the path less travelled of listening to one's heart and following inner guidance.
So, what’s next?
I’m pressing this question into my heart, as it always knows the most enjoyable way to go about things. I want to take things to a deeper, more authentic level. I want to build deep, meaningful relationships and find the perfect ways to nurture and inspire them.
I think it's important to remember that we don't need every step mapped out to start. Taking that first small step and following with consistancy is powerful!

Practises To Help With Heart-Centred Decision Making:
💫Heart Meditation: a meditation to help you connect with your heart and follow its guidance:
Sit or lie down in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths.
Place your hands on your heart and feel the gentle rhythm of your heartbeat.
Imagine a soft, warm light glowing within your heart. This is the light of your inner wisdom and guidance.
As you breathe, allow this light to grow brighter and brighter, illuminating your entire being.
Imagine that you are in a peaceful, natural setting, surrounded by beauty and tranquillity. Or perhaps a place from past you remember feeling safe and happy.
As you breathe, feel the love and wisdom of your heart guiding you along a path that is perfect for you.
Listen to the whispers of your heart, and trust that it knows the way.
Allow yourself to feel the joy and freedom of following your heart’s guidance.
When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes and return to the present moment, carrying the wisdom of your heart with you. Take note of any thoughts, glimmers or inspirations.
💫 Mindful Heart Movement: a movement practise to further connect with your heart:
Stand with your feet hip-width apart, close your eyes, and take a few deep breaths.
Begin to sway your body gently from side to side, letting your arms and hips move freely.
As you sway, imagine that you are moving with the rhythm of your heartbeat, connecting with the wisdom of your heart.
Allow your movements to become more fluid and expressive, letting your body move in whatever way feels natural and joyful.
As you dance, focus on your breath and the sensations in your body.
If your mind wanders, gently bring your attention back to your breath and your movement.
Continue dancing for a few minutes, allowing yourself to fully embody the wisdom and love of your heart.
When you’re ready, gradually slow your movements and come to a still position. Take a few deep breaths and open your eyes, feeling grounded and centred in your body and heart.
